KC Mayor Lucas advocates for national "Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging" nonprofit
But nonprofit promotes illegal DEI preferences and discrimination
Kansas City, MO Mayor Quinton Lucas advocates for Public Rights Project, a nonprofit working with local governments and pushing DEI counter to recent presidential executive orders.
Executive Orders
On January 20th President Trump issued an Executive Order, Ending Radical And Wasteful Government DEI Programs And Preferencing, to end illegal preferences and discrimination.
Yet today, roughly 60 years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, critical and influential institutions of American society, including the Federal Government, major corporations, financial institutions, the medical industry, large commercial airlines, law enforcement agencies, and institutions of higher education have adopted and actively use dangerous, demeaning, and immoral race- and sex-based preferences under the guise of so-called “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI) or “diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility” (DEIA) that can violate the civil-rights laws of this Nation.
The next day Trump issued a related executive order, Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity.
Illegal DEI and DEIA policies not only violate the text and spirit of our longstanding Federal civil-rights laws, they also undermine our national unity, as they deny, discredit, and undermine the traditional American values of hard work, excellence, and individual achievement in favor of an unlawful, corrosive, and pernicious identity-based spoils system.
Public Rights Project
Notwithstanding these executive orders, national nonprofit Public Rights Project recently released their 2025-2027 Strategic Plan, which included their statement of commitment to DEI.
Their plan to use “government power for good” while pushing DEI seems contradictory. Why is a “nonprofit” claiming their plan is to use government power? That’s the function of a public charity?
Their push is mostly to use local governments: “Local government officials are uniquely positioned to stand up for what’s right when they have the right resources.”
Kansas City, MO Mayor Quinton Lucas advocates using the Public Rights Project’s “powerful network and strategy that spans every state in the country.”

This push to support local officials is the first of the four priorities outlined in their Strategic Plan:
Launch a Civil Rights Hub to support local officials in our network.
Sustain the Election Protection Hub to protect voting rights.
Establish a robust litigation function to strengthen our democracy.
Scale our operating model to elevate our talent, culture, and DEIB.
DEI
Public Rights Project is blind to the illegal preferences and discrimination they are promoting.

Blinded by their woke ideology, “values-aligned” means helping “pregnant people” instead of “pregnant women.”

Funding
The Public Rights Project receives significant funding from “dark money” sources, Tides and Arabella Advisors, Soros’ nonprofits, and other progressive philanthropies.

Partners and Their Funding
Notes (Arabella Advisors’ funds and Soros’ nonprofits are common threads for funding):
All Voting is Local is a project of the Leadership Conference Education Fund, which has received $millions from Soros’ nonprofits from 2016-2023.
“Center for Secure and Modern Elections” is a trade name filed with DC government by the Arabella Advisor’s New Venture Fund.
Center for Tech and Civic Life, run by Tiana Epps-Johnson, was the group receiving $350 million in “Zuckerbucks” for the 2020 election, which they distributed to election offices across the country. CTCL also received nearly $25 million in funding from the New Venture Fund in 2020.
Fair Fight is a nonprofit run by Georgia Democratic politician Stacey Abrams. Fair Fight Action received $4.5 million for Soros’ nonprofits in 2021-2022, and grants from Arabella Advisors’ Sixteen Thirty Fund, Hopewell Fund, and North Fund.
“Institute for Responsive Government” started out as another New Venture Fund “trade name” in 2022, but was spun off as a separate nonprofit in 2023. IRG received a $2 million grant from the New Venture Fund to get started. Former Kansas governor Kathleen Sebelius serves as an advisory board member, along with advisors Tiana Epps-Johnson from Center for Tech and Civic Life, and Trey Grayson on the advisory committee for States United Democracy Center.
Law Forward is a Wisconsin nonprofit and received funding of nearly $2 million in recent years from Arabella Advisors’ New Venture Fund, Telescope Fund, and Hopewell Fund. Law Forward has worked on projects with Protect Democracy and States United Democracy Center.
Protect Democracy. Soros’ nonprofits have given Protect Democracy and sister organization United to Protect Democracy over $2 million from 2017-2023. Additional funding of $3.85 million was provided by the Democracy Fund from 2017-2022.

I don't believe this should come as any surprise. The mayor was seen with the anarchists in 2020 chanting "No Justice, No Peace."
How quaint that the mayor, or whomever, has incorporated "Belonging" with DEI. The first time I heard of this was at a Shawnee Mission School District (KS) meeting several years ago.
One interesting note is the contribution from Rockefeller Philanthropy Association. With the exception of Jay, who switched parties, Rockefellers were and are registered Republicans.
DEI gets rid of Mediocre White Men.
Mediocre white men do not think they need to improve - they are white - so when a woman or black man, or hispanic teen beats this mediocre white man - they cry foul. They are mad becuase they are not supurb and DO NOT WANT TO IMPROVE. You know, they are white men and that should be enough.
THAT is why The Donald killed DEI - for all you mediocre white men to get jobs by firing overly qualified people.
I feel for you, Earl, mediocrity takes a toll. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
