Kansas election results in maps
Is JoCo now a Democratic County? Gov. Kelly wins 8 counties; AG-elect Kobach wins 99 counties.
I like maps and prefer to see the “expanded” version of the online Kansas Secretary of State’s election results page.
Results and maps below are from the Kansas Secretary of State’s Unofficial Results updated 11/09/2022 12:08 PM. You may see newer results online as updates are made.
US Senate
US Senator Jerry Moran easily won re-election winning 102 of 105 counties.
But in Johnson County Democrat Mark Holland topped Moran 49% (124,299 votes) to 48% (122,271 votes).
Is JoCo now a Democratic County? Except for the Insurance Commissioner contest, JoCo voted to elect Democrats in all other statewide contests. Registration shows 33% Democrats and 24% Unaffiliated, which now votes Democratic over the 42% of Republicans in JoCo.
Governor / Lt. Governor
Gov. Kelly won 8 counties and AG Derek Schmidt won 97 counties.
State Senator Dennis Pyle wins “spoiler” with 19,753 votes, which was more than the 14,255 votes Schmidt trailed Kelly.
Secretary of State
The map for this contest is the same as the US Senate contest with Secretary of State Schwab winning 102 counties. JoCo voted with Democratic counties Wyandotte and Douglas.
Attorney General
Former Kansas Secretary of State and AG-elect Kris Kobach won 99 of 105 counties but won statewide with a narrow 22,699 vote margin.
State Treasurer
Former Kansas Lt. Gov. Lynn Rogers was appointed to State Treasurer by Gov. Laura Kelly when Jake LaTurner was elected to Congress in 2020.
State Rep. Steve Johnson won 100 of the 105 counties in his victory over incumbent Rogers’ re-election bid.
Commissioner of Insurance
“Moderate” Republican and incumbent Vicki Schmidt won 103 of the 105 counties, including Johnson County.
Constitutional Amendments
Legislative Oversight
This ballot initiative lost narrowly with a 50.33% “no” vote but “no” majority votes carried only six counties.
Sheriff Election and Recall
Douglas was the only county to vote “no”, so this initiative won 104 of the 105 counties.
Judicial Retention
For some reason the Secretary of State never shows maps for these retention elections. I’ll screen scrape the SOS’s web page and create maps of the Supreme Court retention elections in the next few days.
I think we all know the answer - Johnson county results come back 10% - 15% more democratic that you would think should be the case looking at registration in every single race, all the way down to the state house races.
AND there was a surge in democratic registrations a few years ago that couldn't be explained by population growth.
Do you know of any Johnson county election integrity meetings?
